Dorothy Newton's Battle With Domestic Violence

A lot of people think that domestic violence only happens to people that poor or don't have a "good" lives. But this is not the case as domestic violence effects all races, age groups, income levels, education levels, and demographics. A prime example of this is that of Dorothy Newton which is the ex-wife of Cowboys great Nate Newton.

It was the 1990's and the Dallas Cowboys were on the top of the sports world with three Super Bowl wins and the players were becoming superstars. But as the fans cheered the Cowboys to victory, Dorothy, watched fame take over his life. It seemed like the perfect life they had money, a great home, and celebrity status on the outside. But inside, their marriage was full of adultery, anger and violence and soon after Nate became abusive behind closed doors. Dorothy suffered in silence - like so many domestic violence victims do. As Nate grew in popularity the verbal and emotional abuse eventually turned violent and the abuse continued to increase. On one night Nate confronted her with a gun. She was pregnant at the time and their other son witnessed the whole thing, something a child should never have to see. The entire time Dorothy remained afraid to ask for help  - like many other domestic violence victims. She said the only thing she could count on at that time was her belief in God. Dorothy was one of the lucky ones that staid and are still alive, but too often if the victim doesn't leave the end result is a tragic one ending in sever injury or death. But from the tragedy came greatness. Dorothy has written a book called "Silent Tear" to encourage other victims of domestic violence to come forward. Nate is now a changed man, he is church-going and God-fearing.

"Any man that knows God understands that as a man, hitting a woman is never acceptable." -Nate Newton

Dorothy Newton's story is a inspiration for anyone that has been effected by domestic violence and all everyone fighting the battle to "break silence and end the cycle of domestic violence."
