On Saturday, May 19th at 10am Full Throttle Athletics with be hosting a metabolic workout benefiting Wipe Out Kids' Cancer. It is their goal to raise over $2,000 in their fundraising campaign for WOKC.
WOKC mission is to work relentlessly for the day when all children are living cancer free. Their goal is to find a cure through research. Children are fighting valiantly every day to survive cancer and their only hope of a cure is through more research. WOKC provides critical funding to key research initiatives on a national basis. The survival rate for some childhood cancers has increased to almost 80%, but others have a less than 50% cure rate. At WOKC, they will not halt their efforts until all children are free from the threat of cancer.
WOKC exists for reasons as simple as a few statistics:
· Each year in the U.S. approximately 12,500 children, about 1 in 330, are diagnosed with cancer. That equates to 46 children a day or 2 classrooms.
· Cancer is the #1 disease killer of children in America, and the #2 after automobile accidents. More children will die from cancer than from AIDS, muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis and asthma combined.
· There are 5 children diagnosed with cancer for each 1 diagnosed with pediatric AIDS, yet only $20,000 is invested in cancer research for each $595,000 invested in pediatric AIDS research.
· A full two-thirds of the children cured of cancer in childhood end up with at least one long term health problem from the treatment. More than 1/3 of childhood cancer survivors can expect to have life-threatening illness or serious chronic disease by the age of 45.
So here's all the information you need to know:
· You'll get a kick-butt workout for a good cause.
· A donation of $5 is needed to participate.
· You must be 18 or older.
· Bring friends and family.
· You’re going to have a fabulous time.
Let me know if you have any questions.
